ARTIST STATEMENT
In nature there is usually a battle going on. It may appear serene at first, but look again. A flame red poppy yelling loudly in opposition to a sea of green. The dramatic buildup of storm clouds behind the last sunlit stand of trees, the deep tones seem to make the sun shine even louder on the leaves.Working on large canvases I like to use my outside voice in recreating this drama through expansive sky scapes that evoke movement and sound. I also use scale to explode a close up view of a flower and create a different kind of drama through colour and composition.For me the natural world is all about drama and experiencing a sense of awe. Whether from it's grand scale or through a tiny detail given the attention it really deserves.
